Extinction

House of the Dragon
House of the Dragon is the prequel to Game of Thrones and will take place about 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones. This is a much shorter time frame than the prequel from Naomi Watts, which is set thousands of years before the events of the hit HBO show. However, it will still explore the origins of the White Walkers and the history of the ancient houses.
House of the Dragon is another homegrown sci-fi that will be available on Netflix in January 2022. It stars Michael Fishback and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Its cinematography and gritty indie feel will make you wonder how the film was funded. Although Pedro Pascal is the best known actor in the film, Sophie Thatcher steals the show.
Sweetheart
Prospect: This gritty sci-fi film has an indie feel and excellent performances from both actors. The film also features cinematography reminiscent of Strange Days and a nebulous message about climate change and orbital debris. It also stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Pedro Pascal, and Sophie Thatcher.
Blade II: This sci-fi sequel to 1998’s Blade features a daywalking vampire, played by Wesley Snipes. This movie has a jaw-dropping set piece and cool vampire designs. If you’ve never seen this film, you’re missing out on one of the best sci-fi movies of the decade.

Independence Day
Despite the fact that there are a number of excellent new sci-fi releases available on Netflix in January, the biggest release is definitely “Blade Runner.” This original sci-fi movie relies on its story and is less focused on visual effects.
